From a graduate student who is learning about instructional design

Connecting my prior exp to my newly acquired knowledge:

I am transitioning from teaching to the instructional design field, therefore the ID field is very new to me. However, one thing that stood out to me was learning about statements of work. When I was a teacher, I also had to be my own lawyer and document parent communication and student progress to protect myself. In this case, statements of work protect the instructional designer to make sure they are getting paid for their work!

About me:

ID Job Description:

Instructional designers consult clients to implement evidence-based practices in the workplace to increase efficiency and performance. Instructional designers can work on a variety of projects such as instructional materials, job aids, and performance-based training. However, instructional designers do not work alone, they collaborate with other instructional designers or subject matter experts on a project. The subject matter experts provide knowledge and expertise while the instructional designer creates course activities and instructional materials. Instructional designers build learning experiences that address the needs of people from different demographics and industries.

No cap: Performance-Based Training Matters

In performance-based training (PBT), learners demonstrate their knowledge through real-world application rather than simply showing they know their information through a formative assessment. PBT has three main features:

Iykyk:

What are they?

How do they serve ID Project Work?

Statements of Work

The statement of work is the project contract that includes an overview, deliverables, period of performance, estimate, work breakdown structure, and personnel involved.

A statement of work protects an ID by making sure they are doing work they have been contracted to do.

Training requirements analysis

TRAs help close skills, knowledge, and motivation gaps by further refining training needs after conducting a needs assessment.

TRAs help IDs reduce cost of creating, implementing, and maintaining a training.

Learner Analysis

Learner analysis reports highlight findings about learners and environmental factors through data collected from observations, interviews, surveys, and other project stakeholders.

IDs base their decisions on environmental factors that can affect the success of a training.

Task Analysis

Task analysis is the process of analyzing what type of learning students need to do to perform and meet the organization’s standards.

IDs conduct task analysis to demonstrate what is considered exemplary performance on the job. It helps IDs view the tasks needed to be learned from the learner’s POV.
