No body asked but Story time: My name is Nahari, and I am 23 years old. When I was in my last semester of college while studying to be an elementary teacher, I stumbled upon the career of instructional design. Then I realized that I wanted to do instructional design instead of teaching, but it was too late to switch careers. Therefore, I graduated and became a teacher. After one year of teaching I quit, and now I am a full time graduate student trying to do a career change. It has been a challenge for me, I often struggle doing a lot of my work because I have no experience in instructional design and not much life experience. However, I have been learning a lot from my classmates and my courses.

POV working with client
In the OPWL 537 instructional design course, it was my first time interacting with a client as an aspiring instructional designer. Prior to my current experience with my client, I had no idea how an interaction with a subject matter expert was like and what type of questions were essential to conduct an effective meeting. With my team’s current client, we create an agenda and meet a day prior to discuss what type of questions we are going to ask the client so the meeting could be productive.
Team Vibes
My experience working in a team as an undergraduate student has always been unpleasant. Normally, certain team members end up doing all the work and others just lay back. Therefore, I felt a lot of worry when I found out the ID project was a group project. However, working in a team at a graduate level and as an aspiring instructional designer has been a humbling experience for me. Since I am making a career transition from elementary teacher to instructional designer, in addition to the fact that I am only 23 with very little work experience, I felt major imposter syndrome when working in a group. At first, I felt that I did not have enough to contribute to the team’s success. Although I don’t have much experience, I have learned a lot through my team members. My team members’ work experience has been invaluable to the success of the project.
The first time I completed the TRA, LA, and TA that I made with the KidCare video, the task seemed daunting. I wasn’t sure if I was on the right track or what type of information I should include. However, when completing the TRA, LA, and TA with my team, we were able to collaborate and comment on each others’ work. Additionally, one of our team members already has experience in eLearning and dealing with clients, therefore, he had a lot of insight for the type of information the team could include in the documents.
Examples of real ID deliverables that you have produced for your client
Currently, my team and I are in the process of creating a job aid for the client. However, in other classes I have created ID deliverables such as a job aid for training facilitation. In the job aid, I highlighted some key ideas about learners’ brains and cognition that a facilitator can use to increase the effectiveness of the learning experience.
