What does it even mean? Performance Requirements

Performance requirements describe how people who have completed the training should be able to perform their job in a way that meets the organization’s goals. Performance requirements specify all relevant on-the-job conditions and criteria. Performance requirements specify critical tasks, therefore they are especially useful during the design and development phase of the ID project. Performance requirements help the instructional designer determine what to include and exclude from the training. During the design phase, performance requirements guide the ID team to refer to these conditions as they develop job aids, instructional plans, and performance assessments.

What does it even mean? Performance Assessment Instruments

Performance assessment instruments are used to measure if criteria stated in the object has been achieved by the learners. A type of performance based assessment are criterion-referenced tests. Criterion-referenced assessments are made up of items or performance tasks that measure skills described in one or more behavioral objectives. The assessment instruments are helpful for instructors to decide how well the learners have met the objectives that were set forth. It also facilitates a reflective process in which learners are able to evaluate their own performance against the stated objectives and assessment items. In a criterion based assessment, the instructional designer takes into consideration what type of knowledge or skills needed to accomplish the stated outcome goals, and decide how to evaluate that they have been learned.

What does it even mean? Job Aids

Job aids are resources that employees could quickly access to help them successfully perform a task. Job aids come in different variations such as diagrams, handwritten notes, or they could be digitally available. Job aids are particularly useful when employees feel they need them. Employees can especially benefit from job aids in situations where they have to use task-based instructions or complete a complex task. Employee trainings typically occur in short-term events where learners are faced with the challenge of retaining and remembering how to apply the newly acquired information. However, if a job aid is created, then training time could be reduced since employees could learn how to apply the skill while doing the job with the help of the job aid.
